The options for where in the world are endless–China, Southeast Asia, or practically any country in Europe! How exciting!

I’m glad you have the same opinion about it!
That’s exactly why I love it, I’m living in so many countries and meet amazing people, I’ll never regret it.
I hope you like Sydney, I had a great time there! : )

This is my third year “working” as an aupair so I can totally relate to everything you said.
It’s an amazing life, always full and in a constant change. Many friends and people I get to know still find hard to understand how a master-degree architecture student turned out to work as an aupair. Well, I get to move every year to a new country ( I’m actually moving to Sydney next week!) while most of them are still leaving with their family in Milan and looking for a decent job.
I don’t regret my choice and actually I encourage everyone to do the same. I discovered a different side of myself in each country I lived. Now I’m so looking forward to Australia!!

Nancy

I made a similar choice but only once in my life and moved from Italy to the UK at age 30 to learn English from scratch (better late than never, right?).

For the people puzzled about the salary, I can confirm that yours was/is pretty common. I earned about 70£ per week and the host lady also allowed me to work in a sandwich bar 3 times per week for half day so all in all, considering that they gave me a car, food, and a private room for free, I was even able to save money and take a few trips 🙂

That’s why it’s important to choose the right family, ask them if it is possible to have a second job (I also took English classes but stopped almost immediately as I figured that I would have learned the language much faster by actually using that free time working on my second job and earning money)

Side note for the people in their 30’s and over: I tried to apply in the US but their maximum age was below 30 while in the UK and other places they don’t have this restriction so if you are not in your 20’s anymore don’t lose hope. There is always a family who will be happy to have you no matter what your age is, as long as you are good with kids and flexible with their demands.

Cheers and happy travels!

I recently met a girl from South Africa who was an Au Pair for a New York family. They hooked her up with a car, macbook and iphone….all the while getting to live in NY. What a gig.

Okay! Nice to know that. I’d love to visit Canada and New Zealand someday.

I bet you met some amazing people along the way, too. A fantastic part of travelling is meeting locals and foreigners alike and creating your own completely unique experience.

Hello Renuka.

Actually they got it wrong, it’s Canada my favorite, I loved everything there: the people are the friendliest, the landscapes are amazing, and the big white winter is something I enjoy a lot!

I said that I liked New Zealand the best for the beauty of the country, mainly.
Both islands are truly beautiful.
