How long did it take you to get a job and have you been able to get more than 40hrs per month if you are teaching online? With the exception of China, which location would you suggest? Bear in mind, this is posed for South Africans that have completed a Tefl Course but do not have a degree

Thanks

I am curious how you get a job once you pass the course and if others have any personal experience with these courses/being hired. I’ll keep looking through these posts but would love to hear some more personal feedback. Most of what I have found online says pay and living conditions are not ideal in most countries while teaching English. It is hard to know if it’s something I should do.

^ I second this! I’m also an American looking to live overseas long term. I’d like to have more options for teaching locations and since I must do a certification program anyway, I might as well do the CELTA and save time. I’ve done my own independent research, but there’s so many options!

I am an elementary teacher and would love to know if a TEFL course would be enough to apply to jobs in Europe.

I am an American citizen but would like to live overseas longer term.

Just a one thing I wanted to add as a former ESL teacher. If someone wants to work in Europe, CELTA is the best course to get. It is fairly expensive but can be done at schools in Eastern Europe for a good price (and a great cultural experience to boot!). Without CELTA in Europe, job opportunities are limited and the jobs you are offered will likely be with bad working conditions / a lower salary. You’ll recoup the money you shelled out on a CELTA easily and have a way nicer job.

(I also taught in Australia with a CELTA and the pay was excellent!)
