Sexual Assault or Harassment by other hikers is a big fear for solo female hikers and this article didn’t mention it.

Please considering she is speaking to people who might have a concern like myself that being female makes you more vulnerable or afraid to back pack alone. I have been traveling alone for years and years now, and I enjoy it immensely. I haven’t hiked solo as such. I usually go on hikes with my hosts or a bunch of people. But, I think as long as you are prepared to hike alone and know how to pitch a tent if the need arises, I think it’s not a bad idea!

Definitely being prepared with research ahead of time is key. I almost learned the hard way hiking solo out west and was walking through a narrow area with very tall grasses. I heard a “warning” snort of some sort very close by and learned mountain lions were spotted in the area by some passing hikers after the fact.
