I love adventure travel, so planning trips centered around outside activities and national parks is a perfect idea for me – thanks

We are doing our first trip to the states and have been overwhelmed with the amount of things to see and do. So because we are travelling with an 8 year old we have decided to go to California and do theme park’s as our theme. Super touristy but its going to be so much fun as there are so many to do.

I love this. I have been suffering from the “bored traveler syndrome” lately, and I think this is the perfect idea to spice things up! Thanks for sharing. I will consider this on my next visit to an “already visited” destination

I’ve certainly done research before traveling, and I always have some unseen hotspots in mind, but a theme would be cool. And I don’t know if you’ve made it here to Portland for your food truck theme, but it’s a great idea and you’ll have lots to choose from.

It was Spring so my theme was “nature retreat”. Being from LA (also Bangkok) the city can get a little bit tiring and stressful. So “nature retreat” was all about relaxation and getting healing from nature.

I love the idea of doing a literature-themed trip, e.g. an Austen tour of England, or a European tour of Shakespeare settings (The Merchant of VENICE, Hamlet (King of DENMARK), Julius Caesar/ROME…you get the idea). Or even recreating Phileas Fogg’s trip around the world (but maybe not in 80 days)!

On a separate note, something that really surprised me when I visited Krakow was the incredible jazz scene there. After doing a bit of reading I found out that jazz is a big thing all over Eastern Europe, since then a tour of that theme has been on my to do list!

I can think of a lot of other themed trips. Fans of The Beatles can visit Liverpool or have their picture taken on the famous Abbey Road crossing in London. Author Iain Banks wrote a book called “Raw Spirit” where he travelled the length and breadth of Scotland in search of the greatest whisky ever. There are Game of Thrones tours you can do in Ireland and Croatia… although having been to Dubrovnik I think it’s more fun to do it yourself (I even saw Jerome Flynn, who plays Bronn, in a restaurant while I was there)!

The possibilities are endless!

Best wishes from London,

Sarah
