I honestly don’t believe you even explored Kuta going on your report. I normally visit Bali 3 times a year and often stay in Kuta and it is by far the cheapest place to stay of all the tourists areas. I stay in a near new 4 star resort for under AU$50/night, about US$35/night. I eat at local eateries and pay no more than US$4 a meal plus another 80c for a freshly made fruit juice. The beer is the cheapest on Kuta beach than any other beaches and the convenience stores are also cheaper. The market prices for everything are cheaper than Legian or Seminyak as well. Scooter hire, drinks at bars, pretty much everything is cheaper in Kuta. Yes, there are rowdy tourists, especially the drunken ones at night, but you just turn a blind eye and not let it worry you. I do not stick to just Kuta, I travel all over Bali and adjacent islands as there is so much to see. But I have to say that your report is very narrow minded and inaccurate so I can only assume that you were there from a very short time and wrote your report with a very negative mind set.

I have lived in Bali for 25 years & the place has got so dirty since then, more so in the last 10 years. Over priced, too much traffic & now full of expats who have little respect for the laws, customs or environment.
It’s a shame, but I guess that is progress & if the pandemic was not here, I am sure it would get worse.
Bali has so nice areas, but you need to venture away from the south.

In reply to David. Since Corona kuta has become better. No tourists at all. Beach is much cleaner. Lots of locals there on the weekend. Only problem is on the beach a lot of women try and come up and sell you things. But it's a great family friendly beach. Lush sand. And no coral to cut yourself on.

In reply to Maxim. Its not so good if u r short term visitor but if you stay there longterm its good because its where all your contacts are made and get to know the local people. I lived there for nealy 3 years. Older people remember when it was jungle, not a single tourist or building in sight. Kuta folk can direct you to anywhere in Bali. Whereas if you start in an isolated part of Bali a person could feel disconnected and not get so much information.

Problem is you’re probably 20 years old and watched eat pray love and decided to vist bali 10 years after it was paradise. Tourism has ruined much of what made Bali great. And is these nomads that have helped cause the destruction. I would visit Kuta and we do every year but only over the dry season when winds blow offshore. And there is some amazing eating in the area.if you know where to go.

I’ll be traveling to Bali next year (I can’t wait) and have slowly been researching all of the must see locales on my trip. From your experiences, I’m definitely thinking I should cross Kuta Beach off the list and spend the day somewhere else. I generally prefer to get a bit off the beaten path so a tourist filled locale is definitely not my kind of place.

I just hope Bali is overall as magical as I’ve been reading about. The photos sure look amazing.

I can agree Kuta is definitely not the prettiest party of Bali. Traffic and pollution have changed the city. However if you are looking for nightlife and parties its the place to visit! Im Thai and Kuta really minds me of Patong in Phuket, Thailand.

Last time we visited we spent two nights in Seminyak for the nightlife and two nights in Ubud for the relaxation.

You mean go hang out with the real locals who are cutting down the forests to make plywood, cheap furniture and farms?

Kuta is full of cheap (and some upscale) accommodation. It’s easy to get to places like Seminyak by Uber or GoJek.

It’s no more or less authentic of a place than anywhere else. It’s simply part and parcel of the experience. Everyone who has the means and inclination to burn horrendous amounts of fuel to gratify their ego to show they can get off the beaten path on their social media stream is responsible for places like Kuta.
