Yes, you’re right because you can replace “Sean and I” with “us.” But, grammatically correct or not, I like the flow of how I said it so, despite it being wrong, I felt it had a better ring and kept it…and, since I’m the writer, I get to do what I want.

“For” is a preposition requiring the objective case “me.”

Will visit the Orkneys, Edinburgh and hike the highlands a bit. Will tour Islay too. What else should we see/do, Matt? Which of your books and others should we use to prep for the trip, and which should we carry? Thanks.

Having visited most of the Islay distilleries myself I was interested to read about your own experience. I definitely think the right guide makes all the difference as the girl that took our tour at Bunnahabhain was very funny and made it a memorable experience. I would recommend going by ferry for those that have the time as this is all part of the experience of visiting an island in Scotland and the whisky deals on board mean you can start your whisky tasting off early! Hopefully you will come back to sample a few more of our Scottish distilleries in the future 🙂
I should point out that your destinations map has the whole of the UK showing up as England when it is highlighted meaning that Scotland and your Scottish articles don’t show up when you click on it (either does Wales)!

I’m Scottish and all this Islay whiskey info was new to me. My da was a whiskey lover and would have loved this post; sadly, he’s no longer with us, but – rest assured, it is Friday evening and I shall toast him with a wee dram after. Great post!

My wife and I made the Islay pilgrimage this summer and it was one of our best ever trips. One difference, though, was that we found the Bunnahabhain tour to be rather charming, albeit in a shabby kinda way :). We also really enjoyed the Laphroaig Water to Whisky tour, where you visit the water source, cut peat from the bog, tour the distillery, and sample several whiskies out of the cask (and bottle your favorite one).

A fun, roundabout way to get to Islay is to take the scenic train from Glasgow to Oban and then take a short flight from Oban to Islay on a tiny plane. Oban is well worth a stop for its own great distillery and beautiful buildings and setting on the water.
