You’re not even doing it completely for free, you are literally paying to work.
What about the cost of putting your dogs or animals in Kennels? The money saved on that, plus someone looking after your house and garden and making sure it doesn’t get broken into etc.
This is honestly Marketed all wrong, you should be paid to house/animal sit and shouldn’t have to pay to find work that you don’t get paid for. Nonsense.

I would love to start house sitting. A lot of house sits are in remote locations and require a car. Just wondering if you had any tips or good sites for finding affordable 1+ month/long term car rentals internationally? Love your blog!
Thanks!

My husband and I are recently retired and are definitely going to look into this. We are in Canada so may start in our great country. Love the article and all the advice given?

However, I am very interested in house sitting and/or pet sitting locally for overnights and weekends. Although I am not interested in traveling or vacationing at this time, my goal is to supplement my meager social security income with additional resources. This sounds like a perfect way to do that.
Can you direct me to websites that could offer me such opportunities? Please respond to my email.

Thank you.

House sitting is our business. We own and operate 5 regional house sitting sites (Australia, New Zealand, UK, USA and now Canada). We’ve had so many wonderful success stories over the years. It’s really quite overwhelming just how much people love house sitting and how the homeowners love using house sitters. My advice would be to join multiple sites as you find there are different house sits on the different sites. If you can’t afford this then do your research into the int that suits you the most. Check how many current homeowner ads are listed, how popular the site is on Google (if it can’t be found easily then you won’t be found easily either). Take advantage of free registrations if available as you have nothing to lose.

Hi Todra,
The paid jobs are still out there – I’ve been doing one for 5 months a year for the last 14 years, However, there are a lots of responsibilities and I sometimes find the money isn’t worth the stress when things go really wrong! Still, I love their dog and that’s the main reason I stay. I have other shorter-term clients who pay as well. Keep looking Tondra – they’re out there!
