I have been to Germany, Ireland/England, Hawaii, to the East coast, West coast and to a bout half the states. Yet every time I go I suffer anxiety for weeks before. I am not afraid of people but am afraid that I will do something terrible inappropriate on a plane, get into trouble, etc. I was a teacher and counselor and have sought professional help regarding this problem, I have always been told to “face my fears” and go anyway but the fear of leaving home or not getting back home is horrible – not to say, embarrassing! My fear is that I cannot count on myself to do what I need to do to be okay traveling. I’m afraid I’ll become hysterical or something! I am an anxious person but flying to a place I cannot drive back from scares me. I travel with my husband and that helps but I am so tired of being so anxious beforehand. I do take anti-anxiety meds but how can I assure my own self that I’ll be okay and get home again??

It hurts because I’ve told that we’re hated where I come from. Even though I want to visit some of these exciting places I’ve never been to before, the fear of hostility and aggression as soon as people realise where I’m from has made me hesitant.

What’re your thoughts?

If anyone break this shackle it will be easier for him/her to be comfortable to travel.

Discoursing of, that bunny looks familiar. Is that the Kawarau Bridge in Queenstown, NZ? If so, we succeeded the same jump ?

It really is a gem to find such a relatable and noteworthy article like this. I have a fear of heights so going on long flights on airplanes scares me the most. But your post has actually enlightened a lot of your audience that fears will only stop us from doing something as exciting and wonderful as exploring new places and creating great memories.

I have been wanting to visit South America for a while now and the past couple months I’ve been procrastinating and pushing it back. The last 6 weeks I finally started getting serious about it. I settled on making a trip to Colombia. I started learning Spanish and researching about all the country has to offer. I was really set on hiring a tour company for the entirety of the trip but after talking to people who have been there before I think I would have a far greater experience playing it by ear (staying in hostels, meeting people and making plans as I go). I have a general outline but I feel like my plans will most likely change once I get down there. I feel like a prolonged tour group would limit my options extensively. Anyways, this post is to long. Thanks for listening!

I can deal with all those fears except the fact I’d have to give up my 8 year relationship. I just wish I could have both!

Just go traveling for a week or so and see how it goes. You don’t need to go straight away on a round the world trip.

Korea and I’m having crazy anxiety! Must be an age thing, I keep telling myself. Going to Europe, I was spending only my savings, which was limited. This time, I’ll have a job and no time limit. I can literally spend years bumping around from interesting country to interesting country… But I keep getting these twinges, momentary paralyzing fear, almost a panic attack. I know it’s irrational, and my future looks amazing, truly a dream. The next two years on Jeju island (paradise), during which time I’ll be completing my masters in SPED. Then I’d like to check out India for a year. All the while checking out and experiencing the amazing countries that surround as well as their cultures. It’s a dream I’ve had and a goal I’ve set since 2009. However, this fear thing creeps up and scares the crap out of me! I really want to work through this quickly, so I can enjoy the journey. Besides meditation, which I’ve identified is helpful, any other suggestions… Because I’m going!
