What about the finances part of things?

Since there would be no plan, is it likely that you might end up spending more as compared to your traditional trip?

Any insights on the same would be great?

BUT I am this person who plans everything to the detail. When I was reading this I knew ah.. this is totaally me but you know what I would not change how I do it even a bit. Planning it to the details doesn’t mean you need to rush anything or you need to always be on stress. I have done this many time and I get to travel only a short period of time every year as I cannot really afford it so there is no way I would go to the same country twice. I would do my best to see everything I could SO i plan my trips. Planning is fun. I mke sure I give enough time at the places I will be spending time at. I allocate more than enough time, money so I know my limits and my strengths and I don’y forget to enjoy the moment.

No matter how small we might feel in this big, confusing world, we must keep learning, taking action, listening, uniting, swimming . . .

I used to work for an airline and found that in general ticket prices are usually cheapest up to about 6 or so weeks before you travel. However there are exceptions if the flight is completely empty or some sale is on.

Anyway, not sure about buses but plane tickets tend to be the most expensive if booked just in advance, I have been stung several times.

If you know you are going on a trip, start searching for flights as soon as possible and when you come across the best deal, eat the frog and buy it :P.

I often travel with no plan at all, especially if I have plenty of spare time and I’m visiting lots of cities, or if I am going on a road trip where I just plan things day by day and see what happens. But having very limited Annual Leave, I want to make sure I don’t leave a city with the feeling of ‘I think I could have seen more’, which has happened to me several times when just turning up to a city with almost no plan. So if my holiday is a city break, I plan, because it sucks sitting in a hotel room or lobby and trying to figure out what to do because I didn’t plan my trip.

For example, I recently went to Brazil for 4 weeks and stayed with locals, so no planning required and I got to see loads and get a real insight to the local life.

Alternatively, last year I spent a week in NY and planned my days including how to get between places using Traveloris, and kept evenings free to explore … it was really planned out day by day and it was one of the best holidays because of how much I managed to see and fit in, I left with a really satisfied feeling!

So I think it really depends on the type of holiday you are going on as to whether or not you need a detailed itinerary.

this is the big question for me too, it feels like a lottery but i\’m still up for the adventure of it all so willing to do it this way but im still contimplating a cheap round the world ticket that lasts a year to use as a way of getting to each continent but inbetween use whatever type of transport to go where ever for how ever long i want within that year, hmmmmm i need to decide soon eeeek, help matt, what do you think?

I loved this article! My only question is financially related. I understand the spontaneity and I’m all for that, but is it best to book on the spot if you ever decide to go somewhere last minute? Aren’t bus tickets and plane tickets most expensive this way?

Anyway, maybe i’m wrong, but I am planning my trip to Europe for 2017. Will appreciate a reply.

Not planning is dangerous when you are going to a new place or have your family with you.
But if you are travelling solo or with your friends, you gotta let yourself completely into the flow of what’s going to happen and not plan anything, like literally.

I just discovered who you are, and what you do through a Yahoo article, and listened to The Podcasts fro Ask Farnoosh which I was fascinated and intrigued by.

I am going to Italy, Europe for the first time, and you you see how many cities, countries, places I was going to go and see, experience. I will be taking, going with my mom who turned 80, four months ago.

I was not planning on doing many tours at all because she really can not walk for long periods of time at all before she has to stop, to catch her breath, to rest up.

I\’m thinking we will be staying for 3-4 weeks. Italy is where we will most probably be most of the time. My grand father was born in Naples, and this will be the first time for either of us in Italy.

I want to see The Last Supoer, Milan, The Mona Lisa in France. I have friends in Austria, London, and Finland that I\’d like to visit. I do not know if we will end up going to the other 3 countries or not yet. I also have friend s in Germany and thought it would be a great experience to experience Oktoberfest.

I am thinking that we will probably stay at Airbnb\’s for the most part.

What suggestions, recommendations can you share with me, because this is your area of expertise, which you have The specialized knowledge about traveling.

Cheers,

Thomas
